Example

The following code fragment loads "books.xml" into xmlDoc and gets a fragment from the text node of the first <title> element:

var xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
xhttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
   if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) {
       myFunction(this);
   }
};
xhttp.open("GET", "books.xml", true);
xhttp.send();

Definition and Usage

The substringData() method gets data from the text node.

Syntax

substringData(start,length)

Parameter Description
start Required. Specifies where to begin extracting characters. Start value starts at zero
length Required. Specifies how many characters to extract
